NH Turtle Rescue needs beeswax to help save local turtles

The NHBA is a strong supporter of the Beekeepers Relief Fund to aid beekeepers in need in times of emergency. But it's not everyday we are contacted to help wildlife with the one thing every beekeeper has: beeswax.

We recently received an email from former NHBA President and Beekeeper of the Year, Wendy Booth.

"I was wondering if you could help me find beeswax for NH Turtle Rescue. I have been a volunteer there for 3 years and have given them all my stash of wax and they are almost out.  We need it for turtle shell repairs. We are able to purchase it but would also love donations as they are non for profit and run out of 2 rehabbers homes.

Here are a few photos of how the bees wax is used. The first 2 are of Alfredo a sweet snapper with a bad car injury. The beeswax waterproofs the wound so he can heal and the other pic is after changing the was how great the wound looks.

The next two are painted turtles with smaller shell injuries.  You can see how great it is for waterproofing and healing. So getting some local wax would mean a lot to so many turtle."

So if you have any beeswax hanging around that you have saved but haven't gotten around to use, consider our terrapin friends.

NH Turtle Rescue is a small nonprofit organization based in Nottingham and operated by Dallas Huggins and Drew Stevens, licensed wildlife rehabilitators in the state of New Hampshire. They work closely with their mentor, Chris Bogard, who has been rehabilitating turtles for over 20 years.

Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, release, and preserve native turtle species through individualized care, public education, outreach, and scientific research in support of imperiled populations of wild New Hampshire turtles.

If you find an injured turtle or have questions, call or text us at (603) 417-4944. For non-urgent questions, you can write us through phone text or through Facebook or Instagram.
